New Markets Tax Credit Program

The New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program is overseen by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and directly administered by the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund. The CDFI Fund was created in 1994 for the purpose of promoting economic revitalization and community development by promoting access to capital and local economic growth. The CDFI Fund handles all direct oversight of the program and awards allocations of tax credits to CDEs, allowing them to attract private-sector investment into low-income communities. Serving these low-income communities is achieved by offering non-traditional loans and investments to catalytic projects located throughout distressed, previously underserved areas. In 2009, the CDFI Fund awarded CTA CDE an allocation of $75 million in NMTCs in support of this mission. Read More
